Google's Panda Crushes Visibility

  • For many companies, the adage applies: The more favorable the Google impressions, the more traffic and the more revenue.
  • Substantial companies such as eBay, Demand Media and RetailMeNot suffered losses in SEO visibility caused by Google's Panda algorithm updates – along with stock value losses.
  • Unnoticed by the market, tiny TechTarget's SEO visibility and search traffic got crushed by last month's Panda update.
  • Blinded by TechTarget's timing of a positive financial report with another public offering, investors also overlooked an insider's recent indirect share sales worth $17 million.
  • Many companies have suffered crushing declines in Google impressions caused by last month's Panda update - and corresponding losses in stock value.
Now, TheStreetSweeper has found an overlooked Panda victim.
"Google algorithm changes is consistent with what we've seen on previous algorithm changes over the almost 15 years. over 100 websites, and in the immediate aftermath of a algorithm change we see some sites traffic increase and others decline."
"On a broader point - our experience is that there is an enormous amount of fluctuation after a major Google algorithm change."

Amazon Fire Phone: Bing For Search, Nokia For Maps

The emerging consensus from the early “hands on” or “first look” reviews is that the Amazon Fire Phone has some novel and interesting features but that it doesn't measure up, overall, to the iPhone or “true Android” devices. I've argued that Amazon missed the boat with its high-end pricing. G-mail, Google Maps, Google Search and other Google apps are not present in the Amazon Store. Users can still get to Google services on a browser of course.

Maps experience was shown off a bit in some of the reviews. It uses the phone’s “dynamic perspective,” providing a 3D effect as the phone is tilted or rotated. Upon tilting, Yelp reviews appear on the map. Otherwise, Amazon reportedly is using Nokia to provide the underlying mapping data.  Amazon built the maps app in house while Amazon hasn’t totally neglected maps, the company doesn’t appear to consider maps to be a key feature of the Fire’s user experience

Reconsideration Requests With A Note From Your Reviewer

The new reconsideration request rejection notice has a note on the bottom of the templated rejection notice that reads, "A note from your reviewer."

Then it goes on to show a hand written note from the Googler who responded to this specific reconsideration request.

Pay Day Loan Algorithm Rolled Out

Google's Matt Cutts said the Payday Loan Algorithm was rolling out but truth is, I haven't seen signs of it.
In fact, I've asked many folks in the black hat and spammy categories about this and they've seen nothing. Google Payday Loan 3.0 algorithm was released, targeting spammy queries over spammy sites - whatever that means. But even though it began rolling out Thursday night.
What I do see are sites not in the spammy category reporting major changes in their rankings.
Here are some complaints:
I'm not in a spammy category (consumer electronics) and my site was pushed down for no apparent reason with this update. Seems Google messed something up.
I'm not in a spammy category. I've been decimated sad We can't pay our bills now.
Meanwhile the site that never gets updated, that rips off other content got a nice boost. Way to go.
Some benefited, as you would imagine:
We don't know what Google classifies as "spammy". But I'd say consumer electronics queries might indeed fall into that category. Take a look how many (legit and automated) sites are out there.
I had a nice boost on June 12th. Consumer electronics too, with high quality indepth (often 6000+ words) articles.

No Pants Day At Google

Philippe Beaudoin from Google posted a picture on Google+ of the Google Montreal team without pants. Why no pants? Well, it was no pants day and they decided to make the most of the day at Google Montreal.

On June 30, 2014, AdWords will no longer support Internet Explorer 9.
